Jonathan Jacob Walker (born September 17, 1985 in Chicago, Illinois) is an American musician. Formerly the bassist of Panic! at the Disco, Walker was also lead guitarist and occasional lead vocalist of the The Young Veins, now on indefinite hiatus. As of 2011 he is pursuing a solo career as a folk-pop artist, and has released an album entitled Home Recordings. A new album called "New Songs" was released on October 18, 2011.

Music career

Walker first became known in the Chicago scene in 2003[1] as the replacement bass player for 504Plan. The band broke up soon after he joined, and Walker then toured with The Academy Is... as a guitar tech and a videographer. Walker joined Panic! in May 2006, replacing former bassist Brent Wilson.[2][3][4] At the time he joined, he was (at age 20) the oldest of the band members.[4] Walker was with Panic! when they won the video of the year award at the 2006 MTV Video Music Awards for their song "I Write Sins Not Tragedies", although he had not recorded the song with the band nor did he appear in the video. He co-wrote and released one studio album with the band, Pretty. Odd., and one live album, ...Live in Chicago.

In July 2009, he and fellow band member Ryan Ross left Panic! citing creative differences and formed another band, The Young Veins.[5][6] The Young Veins completed two tours in 2010, one with Foxy Shazam and one with Rooney. On December 10, 2010, Walker announced via Twitter that The Young Veins would be on hiatus, later noting in interviews that the creative and personal differences of the past carried over to the new project.[7][8]

On January 6, 2011, Walker digitally self-released a 5-track solo album named Home Recordings.[9] Walker played his first solo with Empires in Chicago on May 21, 2011.[10] He was also an opening act at the Stamps CD Release party on June 26, 2011 [11] and at a solo performance by William Beckett of The Academy Is... and Dan Young of This Providence on July 10, 2011.[12] On August 19th, 2011, Jon Walker and Mark Rose (Spitalfield) announced a 15 date acoustic tour through the Mid-East U.S. for September 2011[13]

On 31 August 2011, Walker announced a new album, entitled New Songs, at the same time as releasing the song, The End Of The World, both produced by Empires guitarist and producer, Max Steger.[14]
